Modern man is a wholesale club animal, signing up for memberships at stores that offer great deals where things are purchased in bulk to pinch an occasional penny or two. This appeals to the bargain hunter in all of us, as there is no greater high than realizing we have saved money on a useful item.

This mentality can serve to work against us however, when it comes to purchasing high ticket items like a piano. Many of us will go to a general music store to make such a purchase and wonder why we cannot find the particular instrument we desire. What we fail to realize is, a piano, like a car or an antique, is an investment piece, and while it doesn’t hurt to keep your eyes open for a steal of a deal, it is also prudent to search for quality. Below is a list of advantages why you should buy from an authorized piano store.

General store versus Piano store

The old adage that one gets what one pays for has never been truer when it comes to buying a piano. Novices in particular may not be aware of what to look for in such a complex instrument. In this regard, a store that caters to piano’s in particular triumphs over a general music store, providing their customer base with the following advantages:

- A greater selection: as with any store that offers a variety of products, you will find a ton of instruments and only small selection of pianos at a general music store. A piano specialty store would be just the opposite, offering a veritable smorgasbord of options, from Story and Clark to Kimball’s and Kawai. Indeed, there is a piano that suits the temperament and playing ability of any piano lover at piano base specialty shops.

- Stock and inventory: Piano stores also have more of what you want on hand and in stock. General stores may sell more or less of a given an item, and if pianos move less frequently, they won’t order them as often. Because pianos are all that a piano based business will sell, you are most likely to find the precise instrument you want, when you need it.

- Knowledgeable advice: people who work in or own and run piano stores tend to be people who enjoy the instrument, play one or are in school studying it. Because of this, they will have a more in depth knowledge of various aspects of the piano. They will also be able to tell you how to care for it and can instruct you on how to keep it in tune or move it so it won’t get injured. This information will help you not only deicide what to get, but will enable you to keep it in top condition once you get it home.

- Post purchase services: almost all new instrument come with a warranty or limited guarantee, but when you buy a piano from a piano store, you are likely to receive additional services with the purchase. For example, the person who owns the piano store may also be a professional tuner. This means they can get your piano back in playing condition should it fall out of tune. They may also offer piano repair services at a cut rate. Certain services may even be free for a limited time.

As you can see, there are numerous advantages to buying a piano via a reputable piano store as opposed to one from a general music store. Don’t fall victim to the bargain basement mentality of the contemporary human animal when it comes to buying something as important as a piano. Do you homework, check out local dealerships, and above all, buy from the best!

Studying the guitar for many is a very rewarding and enjoyable experience but it can also be tormenting. To learn to play music on guitar you will certainly want a few things in your arsenil to come through.

Those that are interested in studying to play the guitar will be disappointed that there is no easy way of learning. Simpler methods can be found but probably more crucial than finding these guides is to not allow yourself to get stressed out whilst learning. Learning guitar utilizes a fair amount of mental energy so you need to be in a relaxed frame of mind whenever starting a lesson.

There is an well-known expression that is good for learning the guitar and it goes “practice makes perfect” and when learning to play guitar this saying has never been more truthful. No one ever picked up a guitar and was superb immediately. Whether your objective is to become a star or simply to be competent to play your favorite songs then practice is essential.

There are different ways to learn guitar ranging from books, videos, online classes and personal classes. Each individual has a view as to which one is the best but it is actually down to your own individual preference as to which one is right for you. To succeed try and make sure you select the one that is right for you and not what someone is telling you is best for you.

Whatever you do you should always be sure that you acquire the basics until you are confident. Seeking to play at a high skill level before you are set will inevitably result in frustration which will make you pack it all in. Learning the fundamentals will likewise make it simpler for you to build up to higher stages later.

Although practice,as I expressed earlier, is really essential it is just as key that you don’t overdo it. If you get to the stage where your lesson is no longer enjoyable then it is time to have a rest as losing the fun will finally lead to you becoming frustrated and finally giving up.

If you need to learn to play music on guitar then it will take some determination on your behalf as well as practicing and patience. But as long as you are doing these things you should discover you learn successfully.

by Guy Taylor

One of the most common dreams throughout the world is to become a rock star. Sadly the large majority can’t hold a note so singing is out of reach but if you teach yourself to play guitar then there is always a chance that you will achieve your dreams. All it really takes is some determination and plenty of practice.

Thankfully the good news is that nowadays almost anyone can learn the guitar. In the past it may not have been the case as you would have needed a fair amount of cash to fulfill your dreams but now thanks to the internet you no longer need to pay large fees for personal tutors as the information you need can be found at a far lower cost.

A private tutor can still be a great way to learn guitar but plenty of the info can also be found in several places on the internet. For those who don’t want to use the internet the quality of books showing you how to play guitar has also greatly improved.

Finding the information however is just the first step. The sad truth is that even the most amazing guide or information ever written would be a complete waste unless you actually put it into use. Nothing is going to happen overnight but if you are determined enough and are willing to practice and then practice some more you can definitely teach yourself guitar.

One piece of advice I would give is that you shouldn’t start out at too high of an advanced level as this will lead to frustration. You should practice and practice the basics until you are completely confident and then you will find learning more advanced techniques come a lot easier.

Without a good degree of motivation and determination then I have to say you will probably fail to teach yourself to play guitar successfully. None of the world famous guitar players that you have heard of picked the guitar up and succeeded with every step on their first attempt and you will be no different. Stick with it through the frustrations and be sure to keep practicing and there is no reason you cannot achieve your dreams.

Two of the most popular ways of studying to play the guitar are books and learn to play guitar videos. In years gone by books have always been the most common method but now that videos are more accessible they are pretty much neck and neck.

by Guy Taylor

In the past books have stood out as the most popular style of learning to play the guitar. The big reason for this is down to its low cost but as learn to play guitar video can now be found at a similar price this is now becoming an increasingly popular way of studying.

If you can’t afford a personal tutor then there is no question in my opinion that the best way to learn to play the guitar is by video. The main rationality for this is a video is more involving than a book and can show you things in far greater detail than a book could ever describe. The lessons also feel more energizing and help to keep you more focused.

Most study to play guitar video come in the MPEG format but you will also find many interpretations utilizing avi and midi formats. All of these are compatible with Windows media player and that is why they are very common selections of format. Before you use any videos to learn to play the guitar make certain that the format is compatible with the software package you are utilizing.

Not all videos will learn in a way that you will feel comfortable with. For this reason I would propose attempting to acquire a clip or demo of the video you are thinking of using.

The 1st lesson should invariably be about the basics, without the basics you will find it much more difficult to go on to advanced levels. Also trying to commence playing advanced levels sooner than your at that skill level will finally lead to frustration and thusly destroying whatever enjoyment you may have studying the guitar.

Using a individual tutor can be a great way to learn to play but it is very pricey and also demands a fair sum of time, that is why video is such a good option for so many people. What it lacks in feedback and motivation it makes up for in price and the fact that you can fit it around your own individual time.

Learn to play guitar videos are a wonderful way to study the guitar if you can’t afford the higher price of a private instructor. They are cheap and they can be fit in around whatever variety of schedule you may have.

In truth there really is no easy way to learn guitar but there are some methods which make it simpler than others. Some may disagree but there is only one way to find out and that is to try it for your self.

by Guy Taylor

In truth there really is no easy way to learn guitar but there are some methods which make it simpler than others. I am now going to write what I think myself is the best way to learn to play guitar. In my honest opinion the only way you will really discover the best method for you by trying things for yourself.

To help to get you started here are a few tips and tricks.

Prepare

Be sure to test your set up before starting and more vitally make sure your guitar is in tune as otherwise things will sound wrong even if you are getting them right. Try to also make sure you find an area to practice in where you can keep your concentration.

Learn About Your Guitar

Don’t underestimate the importance of learning all you can about your guitar. Get to know the parts of all the guitar as this will enable you to find them quicker which is a great way of learning. By getting to know your guitar you will also find that you appreciate and enjoy it more.

Know Your Level

Don’t aim too high too soon as you will soon find yourself frustrated before you’ve really got started. Pick something undemanding to start with, a lot of music guides start you off with some straightforward strumming patterns and old songs. Starting too high will usually lead to you giving up so this is a very important step.

Learn What You Already Know

By now I would hope you have the basics sorted out and are ready to move on to something harder. Aim to find an artist you love and are familiar with and try and copy parts of there songs. Sheet music for most bands are wildly available and I think is the most rewarding and the best way to learn to play guitar, because you are making a song you know and like.

Become Confident

Playing with confidence greatly improves your playing so pick out one song and learn it until you have it in your memory then play in front of a few friends. The best way to learn to play guitar is to possess confidence in your self because the guitar is supposed to be enjoyed by all. It is not a lot of fun sitting in a dark space playing to your self.

The best way to learn to play guitar is to enjoy the experience. Hopefully this article has provided a few good tips as a starting point.

Guitar playing is again becoming increasingly popular thanks to the rise in popularity of rock music in recent years. Because of this more people are looking for the best way to learn guitar, so hopefully this article will help you to answer this.

There are thousands of books which will show you how to play guitar some better than others. Although some books are brilliantly written and easy to follow they tend to have a lower success rate than other methods. If you are a patient type of person however a book could be right for you.

Learning by ear is probably the least common way of learning guitar but those that try it and are successful with it do tend to find it far more enjoyable than any other method. It can be hard but it won’t cost anything to give it a go.

Having private guitar lessons from a personal tutor is another method of learning to play the guitar and without taking anything else into consideration this is the best way to learn guitar. However with things such as price and time taken into account it may not be the best method for everyone.

The final method of learning to play the guitar is to use videos. These are becoming a very popular way of learning as they feel more personal than books and they of course make it easy to explain things in a simple step by step method. The only thing they really lack is the feedback which can be gained from a personal teacher.

The conclusion is that the best way to learn guitar really boils down to the individual. If time and money don’t come into it then a private teacher will most likely be the best method and if they aren’t freely available then videos in most cases are the preferred method of the majority.

by Gray Rollins

Did you know that a piano can have up to 12,000 moving parts? It’s true. Not only that, but many of those parts are moving parts. And if you want your piano to stay in good working order, it needs a little bit of maintenance to stay its best.

During the first year of a piano’s life it’s suggested to have it serviced two to four times. Then talk to your piano technician to decide what frequency to continue service at. Usually twice a year after the first year is recommended, but sometimes once a year is enough. Servicing includes having the piano tuned, regulated as needed, voiced as needed, and eventually having worn parts repaired or replaced as needed.

Tuning is the part that just about any piano owner is familiar with and many know how bad an out of tune piano sounds. Each piano has over 200 strings so it can be a bit of a process to make sure each is in pitch, but the sound quality improvement you get is immense.

How does a piano go out of tune in the first place? The most common cause is humidity changes. It’s recommended that you don’t get your piano tuned right after the humidity has changed or the tune will only hold a couple months.

Regulation is the adjustment of the mechanical aspects of the pianos because the cloth parts compact and settle, and the piano changes dimension somewhat due to changes in humidity. Uneven keys and keys that stick are signs that a piano needs to be regulated. The frequency of regulation needed for a piano varies according to how much the piano is used along with the climate it’s kept in.

Voicing a piano is an adjustment of the tone of your piano. As you use your piano, hammers wear and compact and some notes will become too harsh. At this point, your piano needs to be voiced. Most people find that their piano needs to be voiced every 1-5 years, depending on how much use your piano receives.

Of course there’s more to piano care than just the inner guts of the piano. There’s an exterior of your piano and it requires a bit of care too. Most people can handle keeping their piano clean, but one thing to remember is that using furniture polish on a good piano is a big no no.

Your piano will also need to be reconditioned occasionally. Some parts will get worn out from use and will need to be replaced.

The step beyond reconditioning is rebuilding. This is a very labor intensive process and also quite expensive, but caring for your piano can help you avoid the expense of a full rebuild.

Keep in mind that a piano is an investment, and that a well maintained piano can actually increase in value over its life.

Many people who are considering buying a piano are definitely looking at older piano brands that will give them top quality. Some of the earliest piano manufacturers are still around, though they may have changed hands several times over the years and are still turning out great quality instruments.

With many of these older companies, the instruments are being built in the same way as they were 100 years ago . . . with careful attention paid to the type of wood and age that goes into each piano. The amount of work required to manufacture a great piano that will last is something that these companies all have in common.

Sauter Pianos

Sauter is the longest standing piano manufacturer around. They began in 1819 and continue to produce pianos to this day, making them the oldest existing piano manufacturer. The company was the brainchild of Johann Sauter who combined the technology of the US piano manufacturers and the more traditional values of the Viennese manufacturers to create a piano that was at once unique and popular. The sound principals haven`t changed much since then and still produce a superior sounding instrument.

Steinway Pianos

Steinway is one of the most popular piano brands in existence and it also happens to be one of the older piano manufacturers, as well. Started by the German cabinet maker, Henry Steinway, Steinway Pianos officially began in 1853, though Steinway had previously built over 400 pianos in his home in Germany, as well as his Manhattan home.

This piano company is by far the best known of all the older piano brands. They have a reputation for turning out top quality branded instruments.

Bsendorfer Pianos

This piano brand is considered to be one of the oldest that is still producing. Established in 1828 by Ignaz Bsendorfer, these pianos have several unique characteristics. They are available with not just the standard 88 keys, but also 92 and 97 keys options.

The pianos produced by Bsendorfer are renowned for their sound, which is fuller than most other pianos. Though the company stayed in the family for two generations, it was eventually sold to another family and is now in the process of being sold to Yamaha. However, the actual style of piano is still of top quality. In fact, the process for selecting just the wood for the soundboard is so precise that only 2% of the wood provided is actually accepted! This makes for the best quality of sound available and Bsendorfer pianos are definitely among the top in the world.

Petrof Pianos

This is a European brand of pianos that was founded in 1864 and is one of the oldest companies in Europe that still makes pianos. The Petrof piano is known for its wider range of tones and the care with which these pianos are built. The soundboard is built of aged spruce, cut in one piece and left to dry for 5 years to ensure the clearest sound possible.

The Petrof pianos are not only still being manufactured, they are also still built by hand. Skilled and trained craftspeople work hard to create these instruments that are truly a work of art. They have been around for many generations and will most likely continue to be produced for years to come.

There are many piano manufacturers that have long since gone out of business, but their instruments are still in existence. The businesses mentioned in this article are all still running and still producing pianos for sale. Most of them are quite pricey, due to the high quality produced after 100 years of experience in the industry.

The first piano to come into your home is a big deal. Whether one or all of your children are playing or just the parents, a family piano will be looking at a lot of use over the years, so it`s important to choose the right one. To help you with this monumental decision, we’ve put together a few tips on purchasing that first family piano.

Size matters. Choosing the right size piano for your family is just one of the many decisions you will need to make. It might seem like a good idea to choose a smaller piano for a small child who is learning to play, but remember that your children will grow and they will eventually need to have a full-size piano. If you don`t wish to make a second investment down the road, then you should go for the full-size version now and let your kids get used to playing on it. They will eventually learn to play it better than they would a small piano or keyboard.

What it looks like. Keep in mind that a good quality piano could easily be in your home for the next several decades. That means you want something that will look good through the ages . . . so stay away from lime green or zebra striped pianos that may be cool in the moment, but will lose their appeal pretty fast.

Consider the quality. You will find plenty of cheap pianos in your search for the perfect one and it may be tempting to buy a cheaper one. This is particularly true if you have young children who might be inclined to draw or scratch the finish. However, it really is worth investing in a quality piano so you can appreciate the music that comes out of it. A very good piano will invite the pianist to play it and for anyone in your family who is learning to play, this is a good way to go.

Get an expert. If you decide to buy a second hand piano, rather than a brand new one, the price will certainly be lower. However, you will want an expert to take a look at it to ensure that the piano is of the best quality. Many older pianos have sat in neglect for so long that they no longer are in any condition to be played. You may end up spending quite a bit just repairing and fine tuning the instrument, so this is something to keep in mind and get an expert opinion on.

Buy from a proper dealer. While you may get a lower price at a garage sale or on an auction website, your best bet for a high quality piano for your family is to go through a trusted piano store dealer. This usually gets you a guarantee, plus you won`t have to worry about how to move the piano and get it into your home, as this is a service usually provided by the dealer.

Pick a good brand. There are several top of the line brand names when it comes to pianos. Some of the best brands include Fazioli, Steinway and Sons, Baldwin, Wurlitzer, Beckstein and Kemble. You really can`t go wrong with a top quality piano brand.

Having a great quality family piano is key to enjoying it. A good rule of thumb is to go with the most expensive, best known piano that you can afford. This will give you an instrument that will last for generations to come and your grandchildren will even be enjoying playing your investment.
